im Gespräch mit Giovanni Cerri

 

KUNOweb: Giovanni Cerri, geb. 1969, lebt und arbeitet in Mailand. Selbst Sohn eines Malers stand er von klein auf im Atelier. Seit 1987 ist er mit Ausstellungen vertreten nicht nur in Italien, sondern auch im Ausland von Kroatien über Deutschland, Frankreich, Rumänien bis in die USA und Kanada, Bolivien und China.

Giovanni, Deine Online-Galerie bei uns heißt „Stadtlandschaften“…

 

G.C.: … yes indeed, I have always been inspired by the urban landscape, a theme I developed from direct observation of my city, but also extendable to other suburban areas of any metropolis. I am particularly interested in industrial archaeology, the architectonic relics of an age which is disappearing. From 2001 to 2009 I painted on newspaper to underline the contemporary times through fragments of news, politics, economics, sport, etc.

 

KUNOweb: Als Künstlersohn und auch Frühstarter in der Kunstszene Mailands verfügst Du über eine ganz reichhaltige Künstler-Vita. Was waren für Dich die Highlights in den letzten Jahren?

 

G.C.: Among my most significant exhibitions in recent years are the following: “Sopravvivenze” (Survivial) at the Cini Foundation of Ferrara, Italy and the Cortina Gallery in Milan in 2005.

In 2006, I reinterpreted sixteen fragments of Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel and these works were presented for the exhibition “Sixteen-A” at the Blanchaert Gallery in Milan. In the same year, upon invitation of art critic and journalist Philippe Daverio, I was invited to participate in the prestigious Michetti Prize.

In 2008, I exhibited with my father for “I Cerri. Giancarlo e Giovanni, la pittura di generazione in generazione” (The Cerri’s. Giancarlo and Giovanni, painting from generation to generation) at the Museo della Permanente in Milan. Afterwards I participated in the group show “Masters of Brera” at the National Museum of Shanghai.

In 2009, I had a personal exhibition, “Archéologie du present” in Paris at the Orenda Art International Gallery, and at the Eroici Furori Gallery in Milan I presented an exhibition inspired by the best-seller Gomorrah by Roberto Saviano. For the occasion I presented a large triptych (86.5 x 181 inches).

 

KUNOweb: Danke, Giovanni – das reicht erst einmal! Aber oft gehen ja Ausstellungsevents auch einher mit Materialentscheidungen.

 

G.C.: That´s right. In 2010, I returned to painting directly oil on canvas with the exhibitions “Hurricane of Light” at De Luca Fine Art in Toronto and “Pastorale” at Kuhn & Partner Gallery in Berlin. In that year I also presented a great triptych entitled “Habitat” (86.5 x 181 inches) at the Triennale Design Museum in Milan in occasion of the “Re-planning archaeology” Prize, organised by the Università Politechnico di Milano and the Rotary Club.

 

KUNOweb: Und dann warst Du, lass mich das noch hinzufügen, bei der Biennale 2011 in Venedig auf Einladung des Kurators des italienischen Pavillons, Vittorio Sgarbi, auch mit dabei. Und dieses Jahr weitere Ausstellungen darunter auch in Deutschland und – wir freuen uns – auch bei KUNO.
